Mosasaurs are a type of large aquatic seagoing reptiles indigenous to the Cretaceous era of Earth's history. They are a member of the order Squamata, distantly related to the monitor lizards of today. They were apex predators living almost entirely on fish and often attacking other marine reptiles such as Plesiosaurs and Ichthyosaurs.
