Land of the Lost Wiki

Kona is one the indigenous creatures of the Land of the Lost. He was played by actor Mickey Morton.

Personality and Appearance[]

Kona is an ape-like creature similar to the legendary Sasquatch of Earth. He resembles the species of apes known as the Tappa, who exist north of The Lost City. Though whether he is truly one of them or even related to them is never revealed.

It is also unclear whether he is a singular entity or one of a species. If he is, in fact, a singular being, then he possesses great longevity. Since he was imprisoned by the Sleestak generations ago, this would indicate that he has outlived several generations of Sleestak.

He is aggressive and territorial, with an appetite for Sleestak eggs. While possessing only brutish intelligence, incapable of deductive reasoning, his vast strength makes him more than a match for the Sleestak.

Background[]

Kona had been trapped in the mountains at some unspecified point by ancestors of the Sleestak, probably Late Altrusians whose existence postdate Enik's, since Enik knows nothing of the device's workings and is apparently unable to decipher the writings on the totem. These Late Altrusians used a totem called the Guardian to prevent the creature from entering the valley. The totem focuses the rays of the sun into intense beams of heat through a complex network of prisms and lenses in it eyes. The beams superheat the rocks surrounding the entrance from the mountains into the valley. Unable to withstand the intense heat, Kona couldn't approach the area, and consequently could not gain access to the valley. One day, the Marshalls removed the Guardian without knowing what it was or its purpose. With the Guardian no longer in place, Kona was able to enter the valley and immediately went to The Lost City. There, he attacked the Sleestak. However, Enik was able to forcce Kona to retreat back to the mountains, using a device which fired an laser-like beam of energy.

That night, the Sleestak invaded the Marshall's home and recovered the Guardian, putting it back in its rightful place. However Kona arrived and was able to enter the valley, due to the fact that the totem was not aligned properly. He then attacked the Sleestak for the second time and devoured their eggs. Enik again attempted to drive him away with his energy weapon, but Kona was able to block the beam with a large stone.

Having discovered that the Guardian's functionality depended on correct alignment, the Marshalls took the repaired statue and replaced it on its correct spot, this time taking care to position it properly. The Guardian was now able to resume its intended purpose, thus preventing any further intrusion from Kona.
